Telehealth image The integration of telecommunication networks and healthcare is referred to as telehealth or telemedicine. Increasing bandwidth and decreasing cost are enabling telehealth to enhance more services and provide better access. The real-time interaction (synchronous) of telehealth positions video resources an ideal platform for interaction and collaboration.

Access to healthcare knowledge, information and expertise remains a lingering global need and a great challenge. Telecommunications, including the Internet and other advanced networks, are being used to bring communities across the world closer together and provide a foundation for knowledge sharing. This is of utmost importance in public health and medical education, as it provides an opportunity for fundamental changes in global response and offers real-time, cost-effective access to information on issues from policy development to disease management. An established technology infrastructure has created a unique opportunity to bring together the global health community to utilize expertise on a global stage and share best practices.

The Telehealth Video Resource Center (TVRC), a not-for-profit center, serves as an international resource center and video hub of telehealth activities for statewide, national and international activities. The TVRC will encourage, promote and support the use of high quality video for health education and training, research, and associated clinical activities by providing a focal point for individuals and organizations that have a need to use video resources in support of telehealth activities.

The TVRC is an international resource that partners with government, industry and academia to utilize information technology (IT) to expand the capabilities of health education across the digital divide. Through IT tools and services, the TVRC will ensure that its processes and procedures are transparent for the purpose of promoting the appropriate and effective use of its resources.
